filming news: 4 oscars for the king's speech
battersea power station congratulates tom hooper, colin firth, see-saw films, momentum pictures, the weinstein co. and the outgoing uk film council on a spectacular achievement winning four oscars for the king's speech, including best film and best actor. this follows hotfot on the heels of no less than seven baftas won by the film including best film, leading actor, supporting actor and supporting actress to add to the film's haul of international awards so far. not since chariots of fire has a british film made quite such an impact at the academy awards.

the king's speech: the film dramatises the unexpected ascension to the throne of king george following edward's abdication. the new monarch faces a public relations crisis if he cannot overcome his stammer. colin firth stars as king george and academy award-winner geoffrey rush plays the speech therapist drafted in to cure the king. helena bonham carter stars as queen elizabeth, who would become queen mother to the current monarch.

bollywood and sc-fi action came to battersea over the summer with bollywood's number one box-office star shah rukh khan arriving with his stunt team to shoot scenes for potential blockbuster ra.one.

the big-budget superhero movie - a major departure for khan and bollywood - shot at various locations around london with battersea as the base for some spectacular live-action stunt sequences (see photo left). ra.one is due for worldwide release in 2011.
