battersea power station's boiler house event venue was honoured to host the the glamorous send-off ball for the intrepid walking with the wounded expedition to the north pole by four servicemen, all of whom have suffered serious injury in recent action and are determined to highlight the plight of ex-servicemen wounded in action. the expedition will make history with two of the explorers who will become the first unassisted amputees to reach the north pole. all funds raised will support four fantastic charities and projects including help for heroes.

an act of sheer derring-do such as this deserved a very glamorous send-off and certainly got it with red-carpet arrivals from zara phillips, rob brydon, sharleen spiteri, douglas booth and more turning out to see the x-factor's olly murs open the show on the boiler house stage before an exclusive gig by legendary supergroup duran duran. the band's sound has been given a re-visit by producer and dj mark ronson and they performed an eight-song set for a delighted audience, including an enthusiastic mrs le bon.

everyone here at battersea power station wishes captain guy disney, captain martin hewitt, sergeant steve young and private jaco van gass godspeed and a successful polar expedition, along with guide inge solheim and expedition founders simon dalglish and edward parker.
